Bittersweet Blue cover

Go Orjamic!

For the release of the third CD on Actone Records, Done Burrell has assembled a line-up of some of London's finest jazz musicians under the name Orjam.

Inspired by the organ-driven-horn-led albums of Blue Note in the fifties and sixties, this CD certainly has tracks that would shake up the vicar's tea party. Tracks like Tell It Like It Is and Train Shuffle strike a high energy groove that taps the toe and moves the soul. By contrast, there is the ominous tone of the title track and the beautiful Terry Smith vehicle, My Love Waits.

Orjam features the soar-away saxes of Alex Garnett and Brandon Allen, two of the most exciting young saxophonists on the London Jazz scene today. The saxes are complemented with assured rhythm section of guitar legend Terry Smith, organ genius Pete Whittaker and the artful drumming of Don himself. When did you last hear a CD by a drummer which has no drum solos on it?
